Dear Ingrid,
I was lucky enough to see Jaco perform with Weather Report at the Birmongham Odeon, England in late 1980. I was in the 4th row, and it is a show I will never forget. Jaco's bass solo that evening bought the audience to their feet - what a musician! I know his last few years were filled with pain, and must have been dreadfully hard on you and your family, but for what it is worth I know that his music has given me so much pleasure that my life would have been so much poorer without it. With very best wishes,
Nick

Dear Ingrid:
I've written you before about my preparations to create a video documentary on the life and music of Jaco Pastorius, to which I never received a reply. Is it at all possible for you to give me any information on how I can contact the Pastorius estate, the family members, etc? I've written the www.jacopastorius.com website and, too, never received a reply. I can see how you and others might see me as perhaps just another huckster trying to make a fast buck off of Jaco Pastorius' name. But I assure you my aims are different. Naturally, I cannot (will not) begin work on this project until I have the Pastorius family's full support. I want to make my portrait on Jaco as fair and mysteriously beautiful as possible. I am willing to work closely with the Pastorius family in order to ensure this. What are your thoughts? Do you know of other documentists who are working on similar projects? If so, please let me know. Either way, whether you're in favor of such a project -- or if you're not -- please let me know.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Joseph Podlesnik

Ingrid,
It is strange for me to write anything of any seriousness to someone I don't know, but I would truly like to thank you. I am, as I'm sure most of the people who write here are, a bass player. Having 'come of age' with all of the lore of Jaco, I admire and adore all of your trials and tribulations. I know that the life involved with truly creating music is a difficult path. Not necessarily one we choose, but not an easy one none the less. You have done a wonderful service to anyone of us who has grown up adoring Jaco. Further than that, you supported, and continue to support, a man who had a brilliant vision. I wish I had the elquence to express my gratitude in words. Perhaps someday I can do it properly with song. Thank you,
J P Haser

There is lot's of love put into this website. I just recently got a computer and this family site for Jaco is exactly what I needed. I always wonder how the family is doing. The writing from Mary was so touching and it hit hard at home. My mother is bi polar and we've been through a lot in the last ten years. My mother and Jaco are my hero's. I don't care what anyone says about my hero's. Good people can get sick. It has nothing to do with there wonderful spirit!! God Bless your family. Jaco is with you everyday.

Jaco is in a better place and those of us who knew him, either personally or through his music are priviledged souls. We are Spiritual Beings having a Human Experience... and we'll all be together again, someday.

It may seem redundant to say it, but Jaco has been a great influence on me as a bassist, like so many others. I'm including a picture of me playing my self-assembled Jaco bass, wearing my Jaco stick figure t-shirt, at my band's last gig June 28, '02 in Chauncey, Georgia. Thanks to all the Pastorius family for sharing Jaco with us!

WOW. I had heard so much about Jaco when I first started playing, but I come from a small town with no Jaco recordings to be found anywhere. I began reading magazines, searching the web, and watching TV for anything Jaco. I recently came across a Bass Player article that had Felix's picture in it, and I could tell that he has to play like Jaco just from the picture. This site was perfect for someone like me who wanted to know more but couldn't find info. Thanks so much. Long Live Jaco!

I recently read in bass player of the Jaco tribute show at Melkweg. I am a bassist in Chicago, and have played and been a Jaco fan since I was a teen in the 1970's. As I read, I was surprised to learn that there is a bassist in Belgium named Michel Hatzigeorgiou. Hatzigeorgiou is my family's name. And of course, Michel is Michael translated into English. Is it possible that there are 2 of us playing bass, and jaco fans living on opposite sides of the globe? Can you forward any contact information, as Michel and I might be related! I'd really appreciate any information. Thanks. Mike Hogeorges (Hatzigeorgiou)

Words can't explain what I felt when I first heard Tracys harmonics hit my ears. He never imagined that even people not of his genre would listen to his art. I was put on Jacos music by my profesor Gary Pak that worked with Jaco in Florida years ago and all that he had to say about him was 'his was felt as soon as he enterd the room'. I owe alot to Jaco for showing me what bass playing realy is.

He has touched me and I am grateful. Peace

Beautiful music, beautiful man, and a beautiful website. Love the family photos which give you some idea of how Jaco was able to put so much love and joy across in his music. Nice to remember the fun and sunshine of his life rather than the sensational stuff most Jaco biogs home in on. I'd love to know more about the Word of Mouth album - how do you put something like that together? Unbelievable. Brian Wilson said that genius is a big word, but if you have to live up to something you might as well live up to that. God bless you Jaco, for choosing to fill your music with all that's best in life.

I am a lover of music (jazz mostly)but had never really been interested in the bass. A few years ago I heard Continuum and was amazed and moved. Then Donna Lee and many more came into my life... His playing brings me joy and tears. His passing had to be one of music's greatest sorrows and a terrible loss for you ( his family ) and the world. He will NEVER be forgotten. His playing, his music captures me and I am just nobody... I cannot tell HIm how much he moves me, so I guess it is you, his family, that I will give my thanks to in his stead. With the sorrow of knowing I will never hear what could have been and the joy of having what was to listen to..I thank you ...
