August 28, 2004:  OMA ONNIE

January 6, 1925 - August 18, 2004

My Mom, Julius' and Felix's grandmother, Oma Onnie,
and Jaco adored each other. She had given of herself,
unconditionally, helping me raise his children the
past 17 years. We were so enormously blessed.
A Dios, dear mama, thank you for everything,
and till we meet again. *Love to Jaco*

70 days later, October 27, my Dad passed away of
a broken heart. He missed my Mom beyond words
can express. They can now dance again.

June 15, 2004:  GOODBYE JOHN GERREN

Today we say farewell to a great fan, who has given
Jaco's sons, Julius & Felix, and many others hours
of music
to enjoy. John's love for Karen, Jaco, and
music has carried him through some of the most
trying times. With kindness and humor he was
always there for family and friends. We shall
miss him greatly. Leave a thought here.

April 1, 2004:  HELP SAVE TRANE'S CRIB

John Coltrane's home

John and Alice Coltrane moved to this home in the summer of 1964.
Sitting on 3.4 wooded acres, about 30 miles from Manhattan,
centrally located on Long Island, in the Town of Huntington, NY,
Dix Hills was considered “out in the country” at that time.
This is the home where he was inspired to write
his most famous work, A Love Supreme

For five days he had secluded himself upstairs with pen, paper
and saxophone. "It was late summer, or early fall, because the
weather was nice at the time in New York,’ recalls Alice.
There was an unoccupied area up there where we hardly
ever went, sometimes a family member would visit [and]
would stay there. John would go up there, take little
portions of food every now and then, spending his time
pondering over the music he heard within himself."

A land developer acquired the property in 2002 and
plans to demolish the house, subdivide the acreage
and build new homes to sell. Steve Fulgoni, an
engineer and jazz fan local to Dix Hills, doesn’t
want to see that happen. Fulgoni has begun an effort
to save the house from demolition, have it designated
as a landmark and turned into a Coltrane museum.

"On April 20th, there will be a public hearing in
Huntington Town Hall to consider the landmark
designation of the Coltrane home.
If you can make
it to the hearing, it would be a great help. Everyone
will have an opportunity to speak. Of course,
if you’re not local, maybe you can tell other
musicians that you might know in the NY area."

February 25, 2004:  WORLD WIDE CHAT

Marco Piretti from the Joe Zawinul Unofficial Italian Fansite has once
again set up one of its interesting, friendly, sharing chat sessions between
Zawinul/Weather Report/Pastorius supporters and jazz/fusion lovers in
general. In the past there have been special guests, such as Victor Bailey,
Matthew Garrison, Michiel Borstlap, along with the regular Jaco/bass/music
fans we have come to know via other sites, including this one. As Marco says:
"They are fantastic occasions to have the opportunity to talk directly
with people who share your same musical interests and, sometimes, with
musicians who have been personally involved in the history of this music."

From all the laughing, and good vibes that take place, one
has been known to come away feeling fuzzy, and connected.

Next chat session is scheduled for:
FRIDAY 27th of February, 2004
3 PM U.S. Eastern Time - 9 PM Central European Time
9 PM in Italy
'SPECIAL' GUEST:
just me...

For directions on how to get to the chat, click here.
Perhaps we see you there!

He won the NARAS M.V.P. award for four years, and has authored a drum book titled
"Jazz + Rock = John Guerin". John was born in Hawaii, but grew up in San Diego, before
moving to L.A. in the early '60s. He played with pianist Shearing in the mid-1960s and
was off and running on an eclectic career that included work on film scores, notably
those for Clint Eastwood's biography of Charlie Parker, "Bird," and the recent Diane
Keaton-Jack Nicholson release, "Something's Gotta Give", and was the drummer on
the themes to the TV shows “Hawaii Five-O” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

John is survived by his wife, Michelle Palombi Guerin, of Chatsworth; a son, Scott,
of Los Angeles; a sister, Victoria Shoemaker, of Oakland; a brother, Michael, of
Santa Rosa; and two grandchildren. Another son, Shaun, died last summer.

The family suggests that donations be made to Guerin's favorite charity,
the Nevada SPCA, 4800 W. Dewey Drive, Suite D, Las Vegas, NV 89118.

...you are unstoppable, John Guerin...
